Counselor Connection
Collaboration is essential for school counselors. This mini-blog is for my counselor colleagues to share ideas, lessons and inspiration
I've mentioned one of my favorite School Counseling Blogs before by Danielle Schultz. This is just another wonderful idea that she recently shared. This Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Bullying lesson was perfect for my students this holiday season. I planned to just do it with 5th graders but ended up showing the video K-5, followed up with a few discussion questions, taken from Danielle's blog. Afterward, the students wrote letters of support to Rudolph. The assignment was to pretend they were a bystander and saw the bullying happen. What would you say to Rudolph to encourage him or to help him in this bullying situation. I created a bulletin board with a few of the best letters. Pictures of the bulletin board are posted below.

After Friday's tragedy in Conneticut, school counselors across the country are in for a busy week ahead. One of my favorite School Counselor Blogs by Danielle Schultz recently posted a list of book thats are helpful in working with young children after a tragedy. To see the list, click here.
This site, WITS, has a nice list of primary books related to bullying and LESSON PLANS to go with each book! What a great resource for elementary counselors. What other books do you use when teaching students about bullying? Click here to see their complete list of upper elementary/middle school books related to bullying prevention. Have you ever used this video, Bully Dance, with students? If so, tell me what you did? |
