Counselor Connection
Collaboration is essential for school counselors. This mini-blog is for my counselor colleagues to share ideas, lessons and inspiration
I mentioned in an earlier post that I subscribe to ASCD SmartBriefs. Each day I get an email with a list of the top education articles! It's great because it keeps me informed of the latest trends in education without having to filter through several different webpages. Today's post had an article with a list of Books That Build Community. This looked like a great article to pass on to my classroom teachers, but also something that I could use when building community within my own small groups.

Currently, the temperature in Arizona is somewhere around 114 degrees! Needless to say, I needed to cover a few of my 8 windows. Thanks to inspiration from our 3rd grade teacher, I borrowed the idea of using black butcher paper and chalk to create the cute little window coverings. Once hung in my windows they looked great! However, they are hard to see due to the reflection.
A few years ago our district counselors had the privilege of working with some awesome ladies from ASU. They came into our middle schools and did a few lessons called "College Is For You" with our 8th graders. Then, several of the schools took a field trip to visit Arizona State University. Unfortunately, last year the program was not funded so our students missed out on these great lessons. However, the webpage is still up and going and has the lesson plans and powerpoints that these lovely women did with our 8th graders. I wanted to share that here! ASU Collge Is For You I recently came across this free Drug Education Program from a Foundation for a Drug Free World. "The Truth About Drugs Education Package is available at no charge to teachers, school administrators, mentors, school counselors, law enforcement officers and juvenile correctional officers--anyone in a position to educate youth groups and classes on the subject of substance abuse." To order your own Education Package, click here. I also found several of the videos that accompany this program on youtube. Here's an example of what you get with the free program. This video is called "The Truth About Marijuana". |
