Counselor Connection
Collaboration is essential for school counselors. This mini-blog is for my counselor colleagues to share ideas, lessons and inspiration
Thanks to Pinterest, I have come across several amazing resources for School Counselors. My favorite one I found this week is called Bingo Baker. Here you can create Bingo cards for any topic you are addressing with students. I just created a set of 10 cards for my Social Skills Group.Below is a sample card I found online, great for Career Lessons!

A fellow counselor sent me a link to this site that has some great free Drug Education Resources for teacher and counselors. Just click on the link above or the picture below to be taken to the site. Five years ago I started a group called Club Ophelia at my school. The group began out of frustration. Frustration with all the drama and the ways the girls were treating one another. At the time there wasn't much research out there about girl bullying or how to handle these girls. As you know, in the last 5 years the information about this topic has grown exponentially. Refer to my SR Club Ophelia page for some of that information or email me and I'd be more than happy to point you in the right direction for resources in working with girls. Club Ophelia began after I researched programs and came across Cheryl Dellasega's national program Club Ophelia. I wrote a grant with a fellow counselor and got started! In that first year, I had about 7 girls in the program. This year I have 38 7th and 8th grade girls! As the girls leave 8th grade and promote to high school, I like to send them off with memories of their Club Ophelia experiences. It is my hope that I send them off with the confidence they need to make it through high school and to never forget just how intelligent and beautiful they are! Below are some pictures of the things I send them off with. This poem was actually on a graduation card that I received 10 years ago from a mentor! Who says greeting cards just get tossed! I love what it says and use it every year with my girls. I know its hard to read so I'll type it out below. "There is an inner beauty about a girl who believes in herself, who knows she is capable of anything she puts her mind to. There is a beauty in the strength and determination of a girl who follows her own path, who isn't thrown off by obstacles along the way. There is a beauty about a girl whose confidence comes from experience. Who knows she can fall and pick herself back up and go on. Hoping you feel proud of yourself And know that you've worked hard, And see the beautiful woman In you that others see and are inspired by" Creating a CD label is super easy! For some reason I thought it was going to be a difficult process. I just went to the store and purchased CD Label Template. It was about $5 for 16 labels. I also purchased cardboard CD cases at the same store for $5 for 24! Then I glued the poem on one side of the case and the song list on the other. The next gift can get a little pricey. I take the photos I've collected over their two years and make a collage for each girl. These collages are only $1.49 at Costco. It wasn't so bad when I had less than 10 girls in Club Ophelia. This year I have 16 8th graders so it was was $24. Next year I'll have about 25 girls in 8th grade so I may need to come up with another idea. Lastly, I put all of these gifts into a manila envelope. I invited younger girls to my office to decorate these envelopes with Club Ophelia themes. |
