Counselor Connection
Collaboration is essential for school counselors. This mini-blog is for my counselor colleagues to share ideas, lessons and inspiration
A Helping Hand: A Story To Help Children Learn About School Counselors A couple of years ago I came across the book, A Helping Hand by Tammy S. Berg. Its a great book for beginning of the year lessons when counselors typically go into classrooms to introduce themselves and their counseling programs. Its a cute little story that summarizes what we do. At the end of the book are reproducibles that can be used as an activity or to send home. I typically use this story with my kinder-5th graders. Afterward we complete a circle map brainstorming all that the students know about me and my job. (see sample circle map below) I also have a letter that I send home with each student which summarizes what a school counselor does at our school. My contact information is included as well. I hope you all are having a wonderful start to your school year!
