Counselor Connection
Collaboration is essential for school counselors. This mini-blog is for my counselor colleagues to share ideas, lessons and inspiration
I subscribe to ASCD SmartBrief's on Education. Basically this means that someone else out there reads every article on Education then puts the most important ones into an email to me. Its a pretty handy tool. They offer a variety of topics. Today one of the articles listed "10 Interactive Lessons By Google On Digital Citizenship" caught my eye. YouTube Video Google (which owns You Tube) has built lessons to educate students about YouTube's policies, how to flag content, how to be a safer online citizen, and protect their identities. Here's a list of the topics (each comes with slides and a Teacher's Guide). 1. What Makes YouTube Unique 2. Detecting Lies 3. Safety Mode 4. Online Reputation and Cyberbullying 5. Policy 6. Reporting content 7. Privacy part 1 8. Privacy part 2 9. Copyright 10. Additional resources/Appendix including parent resources

Perhaps you've seen billboards like this as you drive down freeway. I do and always think - that would be great to share with my students. Well, now you can. Values.com is devoted to sharing words of wisdom, along with personal stores and videos such as this one. Other topics on the siteCharacter Gratitude Live Your Dreams Make a Difference Perseverance Education Love Sacrifice Honor Friendship Motivation and many many more. What a great resource for school counselors! I saw this on the Elementary School Counseling Blog that I follow and thought it was a great idea! Something very useful when working with those middle schoolers who have a hard time getting to school on time. Our start time has been pushed back to 8:45 so hopefully my kiddos won't be having this problem anymore. (Who am I kidding, right?) Check out this site by clicking the picture or visiting Get Schooled. Students fill out a short form and then they'll get a celebrity wake up call each morning! What better motivation to get out of bed then a phone call from Nicki Minaj! |
