Help! I'm being bullied...I think!
I recently saw a photo of a bulletin board posted on a school counseling Facebook Group by Bethany Rogers Lang. It was exactly what I'd been searching for to help explain to my students that all mean behavior is not "bullying". Recently I've noticed that the "B" word (bullying) is way overused by students, parents, teachers, school counselors and by the media. Most reports of "bullying" that I receive from students is in fact, not bullying! Typically, they are conflicts involving both parties making not-so-nice choices. Sometimes they are just mean or rude behaviors that happened once or twice - but definitely not bullying. After seeing Bethany's bulletin board I was inspired to create a handout for students and parents that outlines specifically what all of these behaviors are. The handout is below. Feel free to use, but please be sure to give me a little credit. (I was up until midnight on a Sunday night after-all)
