Confident Women
I am passionate about working with young women to help increase self-esteem and to learn to love their bodies. Here I will share videos and articles that inspire me in hopes of inspiring the girls of Franklin high.
One of my favorite websites to follow and get advice from when it comes to Mean Girls and girl bullying is www.rachelsimmons.com. Rachel Simmons is an author who wrote these books click here to read more about these books. I have all three of these books if you are interested in checking them out. On her website she has a list of books that are helpful for girls and teenagers who may be dealing with bullies in their lives. Check out this page to see a full a list of those books. I even have several of these books in my counseling library. All you have to do is ask to borrow one and its yours. Our school library may also carry some of these books. She has this great section called Girl Tips. These are little pieces of advice from her to give you something to think about. Here are a couple examples of her Girl Tips. Girl Tip #57. Not everyone is NOT Looking at You Girl Tip #55. Its Always Worse in Your Head Click this Girl Tips link to find her page of helpful hints. I hope you find her page as helpful as I have!

Club Ophelia began at Sunset Ridge in 2007 with a group of 7 of 7th and 8th grade girls joining me after school each Tuesday. We met to talk about our self-esteem, our body esteem and our relationships with others. Club Ophelia was started by Cheryl Dellasega, PhD. Dr. Dellasega is the author of several books on the unique issues that confront mothers and teenage daughters. Visit her site for a complete list of books she has written. I highly recommend each of them to all mothers and daughters. Club Ophelia has continued and grown each year at Sunset Ridge, we currently have 31 members. It is now something our girls all look forward to being a part of as the reach 7th and 8th grades. Each year the topics we discuss are unique to the group of girls. Some things we focus on are: * Relational Aggression (girl bullying) * Friendships * Eating Disorders * Body Image * Self Esteem * Relationships with our mothers * Dating Violence/Domestic Violence * The future Check back on this site for references to my favorite books, videos and websites for middle school girls and the women who care about them. Until those are ready, click here to see one of my favorite videos about the power Daily Affirmations! |
